St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Glenwood, Maryland is a lively community that is characterized by intentional outreach, joyful worship, strong fellowship, and meaningful Christian formation. The congregation comprises over 150 households and is active in the wider community and region. With 100 children ages newborn to 18, and a founding date of 1980, the congregation is youthful in age and spirit. There is healthy lay and ordained leadership, and a staff that enjoys working together to fulfill the mission of the congregation.
Position: Vocal Director
St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, Glenwood, Maryland
-To lead and conduct the Chancel Choir, the Worship Band, the two junior choirs in the Royal School of Church Music program, other special ensembles, and congregational singing; and,
-To work with the Director of Music to select chancel choir and special music from the wide array of offerings in the global Anglican communion and other traditions, to experiment with new forms of praising God in worship, to encourage growth and development of musicianship in the community, to include musical gifts of all ages and types, and to represent the church to our members, to our community and to the public in a positive and professional manner through correspondence and direct interaction.

Educational Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Music (Vocal)
As a 12 hour per week, salaried position, the Vocal Director will assist in the worship leadership of 2 liturgical services on Sunday mornings, 1 Saturday evening service per month (Second Saturdays), the Royal School of Church Music junior choirs on Wednesday afternoons (5-6:30), the Worship Band on Wednesday evenings, and Chancel Choir practice on Thursday evenings.

Wednesday 5:00 – 8:00 pm
Thursday 7:30-9:00 pm
The Vocal Director will be present for Palm Sunday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Easter Sunday, and Christmas Eve services unless otherwise excused by the Rector. Any changes to the work schedule are subject to approval by the Rector.
Dependable and timely execution of job duties.
Ability to be in ministry with people from all walks of life and personality styles.
Submit and pass required background screenings as outlined in our Safe Church Policy.
Adaptable to changes in pastoral and lay leadership positions.
Familiar with Episcopal worship.
Must be willing to support the realization of the church’s vision, mission, core values, and priorities under the direction of the Rector and Vestry. Dedicated to the development of God’s people in all areas of Christian discipleship. Willing to study scripture, pray and grow in faith with colleagues.
Vocal instruction and coaching of the musical gifts of the congregation
Selects music appropriate for Second Saturday service, such as Music that Makes Community, Taize chant.
Knowledge of Royal School of Church Music or willingness to attend RSCM training.
Collaborates with the Director of Music to select music, lead practices and coordinate liturgies.
Conducts the congregation in all congregational singing during Sunday morning services.
Conducts the congregation a capella in all congregational singing during the Saturday evening services.
Job Type: Part-time, 9-month position (September-May)
Salary will be based on Association of Anglican Musician Salary Guide. Some professional development funds available. There is also space available, and interest in, on-site private paid vocal coaching.
